EAST Tilbury has a rich history of Independent councillors. For many years, Barry Palmer and John Purkiss represented the ward and they were very popular. There wasn’t a council meeting that went by when either John or Barry (or possibly both) would stand up and protect the interests of East Tilbury. In so many ways, that torch has been passed to Fraser Massey, who has done a wonderful job as in Independent since he was was elected by a majority of 784 in 2019. Now, there is another Independent candidate in Neil Speight. Mr Speight stood as a UKIP candidate in 2016 and was often in talks with the Tories for a seat.

Demolition of Tilbury s fire station is approved

THURROCK Council has granted itself permission to demolish the former Tilbury fire station. Approval for the demolition work has been confirmed. The site will now be cleared in readiness for the new integrated medical centre that is planned, one of four across the borough, along with others in Purfleet, Corringham and Grays. Warm tributes as Thurrock war veteran Albert England passes away THE death in the early hours of Sunday morning has been announced of one of Thurrock’s most respected war veterans – the much-loved and admired Albert England reports Thurrock Nub News. Albert, 95, died in Basildon & Thurrock Hospital, and sadly, because of Covid, his wife Wyn was not able to be with him – a sad end to a loving partnership that produced four sons and a multitude of grandchildren, great grandchildren and even a great-great grandchild Albie – a fitting name synonymous with his heroic great, great grandfather!  Albert’s death was not Covid connected.

Tributes to victim of motorbike crash on A128 as friends mourn loss of a truly nice guy

TRIBUTES have been paid by members of Thurrock’s motorcycling fraternity to a West Tilbury man who died in a crash at Bulphan earlier this week reports Thurrock Nub News. Brian Richardson, known to his many friends as ‘Dinks’, was killed after his motorbike was involved in a collision on the A128 at the junction with the old Brentwood Road adjacent to Ye Olde Plough hotel near Bulphan early on Monday evening. Floral tributes and messages of condolence have been left at the scene. And Chadwell Motorcycles, a bike shop in Chadwell St Mary which is a focal point for many local bike enthusiasts, announced his death and said how much one of their ‘regulars’ will be missed.
