ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Dougherty County School System (DCSS) honored teachers at each school that went above and beyond in 2020.
The school district also named its 2021 district teacher of the year.
âIt is my distinct honor and privilege to announce that the 2021 Dougherty County School System Teach of the Year is CiâAndrea Jones from Radium Middle School,â Kenneth Dyer, DCSS superintendent, said.
Dyer said Jonesâs teaching style captivated judges on the 2021 teacher of the year panel.

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - The Dougherty County School System and the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce celebrated some of the school district’s top students and teachers Thursday.
Each year, the district partners with the Chamber to name STAR Students who then name their STAR teachers. To be named a STAR student, high school seniors must have the highest score on any single test date of the SAT taken through the March test date of their senior year and be in the top 10% or top 10 students of their class based on grade point average at thei

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Albany Commissioners said construction crews will soon begin work on new sidewalks in East Albany in hopes of making the city safer for pedestrians.
City leaders said it will take several years to complete the entire development project, but one part of the project will be done and ready to use in September.
This sidewalk will be from East Broad Avenue to East Road, has been an ongoing concern according to city commissioners in this particularly busy area of town.

21-Year-Old Builds Charter School For Young Black Boys in Georgia

King Randall is a 21-year-old who is on a mission to open a school for boys in Ga.
At just 21 years old, King Randall has big plans to give back to community youth, even more than he already has. WALB News 10 in Georgia reported that he is opening up a new school in Albany. Randall aspires to transform the former Isabella School into the New Life Preparatory School. In the WALB interview, Randall said that he hopes the school will provide Albany boys more opportunities for success. He has been wanting to open a school since beginning The “X” for Boys program when he was just 19-years-old. According to the “X” Boys community website, the current program offerings include teaching simple automotive repair, home improvement workshops, and reading literacy.
