ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - The Southwest Public Health District will partner with the Albany Coalition of Churches to host a COVID-19 vaccine clinic in Albany on Saturday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Dougherty County Health Department.
The health department is at 1710 S. Slappey Boulevard.
Jacqueline Jenkins, director of the Office of Epidemiology and Prevention for the district, said the partnership addresses the issues of vaccine equity and safety among people of color and encourages those who identify as “vaccine-hesitant” to make an appointment and get vaccinated.

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - COVID-19â²s winter surge was one of many topics on Dougherty County leadersâ minds on Friday.
At Fridayâs COVID-19 task force briefing, leaders talked about false information around the vaccine and safety measures for Super Bowl parties.
Dougherty County Commission Chairman Christopher Cohilas said experts are starting to see a downward trend.
Now, Cohilas pointed out, thereâs a higher percentage of people testing negative for COVID-19.

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - The Moderna COVID-19 vaccine has arrived at the Dougherty County Health Department, but it’s still in limited supply.
Dr. Charles Ruis, director of the Southwest Health District, took the vaccine Monday in Dougherty County.
He said he didn’t have much notice before he was sitting in the vaccination seat.
“We were thinking, it’s logical. We need to give it to ourselves. We need to lean on each other you may say,” said Ruis.
