ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - The Dougherty County Commission discussed several topics on Monday.
One was a Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) agent updating commissioners on training and asking them to accept a $248,000 grant.
GBI Special Agent in Charge Eric Schwalls said COVID-19 affected their ability to get some training done.
Schwalls said they are building up their personnel, but many of them haven’t worked narcotics before. Currently, Schwalls said, agents are training on meth lab investigations.

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Dougherty Countyâs COVID-19 Task Force is urging the Albany community to reconsider New Yearâs Eve plans involving going out with others.
Especially after it was announced that Albany Mayor Bo Dorough is in quarantine after a COVID-19 exposure.
âIt appears as we continue to move forward with COVID-19 that either we know someone that has been affected by COVID-19 in some way, or lost someone that we know due to COVID-19. COVID-19 is present in our community and continues to be a concern,â said Cedric Scott, Albany Fire Department fire chief.

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Dougherty County Emergency Medical Services Director Sam Allen said so far, none of his employees have had adverse reactions to the COVID-19 vaccine.
Six paramedics and staff members got the vaccine on Friday at Phoebe.

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - After an uptick in COVID-19 cases post-Thanksgiving, Dougherty County Jail staff said theyâre doing their part to prevent more cases this Christmas.
âWe have remained a COVID-free facility until this week. We did have a small outbreak of COVID-19 in our general population. We have had, now, seven inmates that have tested positive for COVID-19, all in the same housing area,â said John Ostrander, chief jailer for the Dougherty County Sheriffâs Office.

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - On Friday, the Dougherty County Board of Commissioners, administration and human service will hold a service award program to honor nearly 100 county employees for their years of service.
It will be at 11 a.m. at the Government Center Plaza. County officials said because of social distancing, the event will be open to only employees and select staff.

The county is honoring 25 employees with five years of service, nine with 10 years, 13 with 15 years, 10 with 20 years, 17 with 25 years, six with 30 years, five with 35 years, and one employee with 45 years of service. Additionally, 15 employees will be recognized as retirees.
