(WALB) - The Dougherty County Commission discussed several topics on Monday. One was a Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) agent updating commissioners on training and asking them to accept a $248,000 grant. GBI Special Agent in Charge Eric Schwalls said COVID-19 affected their ability to get some training done. Schwalls said they are building up their personnel, but many of them haven’t worked narcotics before. Currently, Schwalls said, agents are training on meth lab investigations.

(WALB) - After an uptick in COVID-19 cases post-Thanksgiving, Dougherty County Jail staff said they’re doing their part to prevent more cases this Christmas. “We have remained a COVID-free facility until this week. We did have a small outbreak of COVID-19 in our general population. We have had, now, seven inmates that have tested positive for COVID-19, all in the same housing area,” said John Ostrander, chief jailer for the Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office.

Dougherty Co to honor nearly 100 employees for years of service

(WALB) - On Friday, the Dougherty County Board of Commissioners, administration and human service will hold a service award program to honor nearly 100 county employees for their years of service. It will be at 11 a.m. at the Government Center Plaza. County officials said because of social distancing, the event will be open to only employees and select staff. The event will be broadcasted live to the community on the Dougherty County Government’s The county is honoring 25 employees with five years of service, nine with 10 years, 13 with 15 years, 10 with 20 years, 17 with 25 years, six with 30 years, five with 35 years, and one employee with 45 years of service. Additionally, 15 employees will be recognized as retirees.
