Science policy crafted to build the economy and society
A National Science Policy and Strategy aimed at enhancing the development of science and technology in Ethiopia has been launched recently. As a national framework, the Ethiopian Ministry of Science and Higher Education’s policy acknowledges the role of science and technology in responding to the emerging needs of the country.
In general, it also recognises the importance of science and technology in ensuring Ethiopia’s future growth but, in particular, its ambition of becoming a middle-income country by 2025.
Past efforts
Ethiopia has, over time, been seeking mechanisms to harness the power of science and technology for its development. Various policy directives that promote science have been implemented in the country at different times.
