TUI members in Waterford IT and IT Carlow, have voted in favour of the memorandum of understanding, in relation to the establishment of a Technological University of the South East.
A re-ballot was held yesterday, with the majority of members of the TUI -which is made up of academic staff at the colleges- voting for the process of amalgamation.
In April, Waterford’s TUI branch rejected the terms of the merger of the two institutes, however, the union members subsequently stepped down.
Yesterday, 79% of staff voted in favour of the merger, while in Carlow there was a 90% vote to join the two institutes.
