PH s DOST, China s MOST announce 8 projects under joint research program – Manila Bulletin

Published February 24, 2021, 7:32 PM A total of eight (8) projects have been approved under the Joint Research Program (JRP) between the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) of the Philippines and the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) of the People’s Republic of China to be implemented this year. A virtual launch on the announcement of the projects to be implemented under the DOST-MOST JRP for 2021 was hosted by DOST on Wednesday, Feb. 24 via Zoom. The event was attended by DOST Secretary Fortunato T. de la Peña, Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian, Philippine Ambassador to China Jose Santiago Sta. Romana, DOST Undersecretary Rowena Cristina Guevara, Assistant Secretary Leah J. Buendia, DOST Council Executive Directors, representatives from the Department of Foreign Affairs, and project leaders from both the Philippines and China.

DOST asks Congress to overhaul the National Metrology Act – Manila Bulletin

(FACEBOOK/MANILA BULLETIN) DOST Secretary Fortunato de la Peña sought the passage of the proposed Modernized National Measurement System Act  seeking to transform the National Metrological Division (NMD) into the National Measurement Institute of the Philippines (NMPhil) to ensure the precision, accuracy and reliability of the measurements and measuring instruments in the country. “Because metrology is so intricately connected with our daily lives, there is a need to make sure that the system that creates and makes use of these measurements is updated, in place, and capable. The bill that we are pushing forth will be able to do just that,” he said in a Senate Webinar on “Modernizing the Philippines National Measurement System”.

DOST, MERC to develop storage device used for lighting, charging electronic gadgets

Published February 8, 2021, 1:44 PM he Department of Science and Technology (DOST) -Industrial Technology Development Institute (ITDI) has forged partnership with Mark Energy Revolution Corporation (MERC)  to develop a portable storage device that can provide sufficient power for lighting while simultaneously charging a few other small electronic devices without producing harmful chemicals. (Unsplash) DOST Secretary Fortunato T. dela Peña said the DOST-ITDI through its Advanced Device and Materials Testing Laboratory (ADMATEL) led the  research and development (R & D) “collaboration”  with the Bulacan-based MERC to develop sustainable, and environment-friendly energy technologies. “This R&D collaboration seeks to find improvements in MERC’s Power Cube, a storage device  which uses low-cost metal anodes, cathodes, and saltwater electrolytes,” he said in his weekly report streamed live on Friday, Feb. 5.
