PETALING JAYA: Unions say workers are ready to return if more economic sectors gradually reopen, provided that the herd immunity among workers has been achieved and tight standard operating procedures are practised at workplaces.
Malaysian Trades Union Congress deputy president Mohd Effendy Abdul Ghani said as workers wanted to keep their jobs, there was the worry that some employers might not follow the SOP once given the green light to operate.
“The government has announced the National Recovery Plan, which is to partially open once the number of cases has gone down. We want industries to reopen but what we want more is for the government to completely focus and intensify the vaccination of workers from all sectors.

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 12): The Union Network International-Malaysia Labour Centre (UNI-MLC) has urged the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) to expedite the automatic approval process of its i-Sinar initiative to facilitate contributors to withdraw their savings.
UNI MLC president Datuk Mohamad Shafie BP Mammal said he was confident that the well-managed EPF system would enable the approval process to be done quickly.
“UNI MLC welcomes the government’s announcement that EPF is in the midst of removing all conditions for the i-Sinar facility. It is in line with UNI MLC’s stand that does not want contributors to be burdened with various conditions set to withdraw their savings,” he said in a statement today.

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 10 The Union Network International-Malaysia Labour Centre (UNI-MLC) today reminded politicians of the advice of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to work together while the country is battling Covid-19.
Its president Datuk Mohamed Shafie BP Mammal said pushing for snap elections now would only be detrimental to the country due to the double whammy of the virus infections and the floods.
