Flats are rearing their ugly head over historic Villa Bijou in Rabat

A five-storey block rising by Villa Bijou, an architectural gem in Rabat, has been described as yet another example of what can happen to built heritage through failure to protect its context. It has raised questions about why the property in Triq Ġorġ Borg Olivier was never scheduled, despite its high heritage value, paving the way for neighbouring developments that would not respect the context and negatively impact the prestigious villa. Concerns over the future of Box Wood in Stevenage have been mounting after part of the 60 acres was purchased earlier this year and parcelled up for sale.  The land, which lies within Green Belt off Stevenage Road and partly within a site of Archaeological Significance and an Ancient Monument, has now been added to East Hertfordshire Council s register of ACVs after community interest company Friends of Fairlands Farm nominated the asset.
