Dubbed the world s oldest-known cave art, the painting represented a 45,000-year-old life-size warty pig.
Dr Sven Ouzman, from University Western Australia s School of Social Sciences, believes the latest discovery will help researchers better understand Australia s Indigenous history.
He said: This iconic kangaroo image is visually similar to rock paintings from islands in South East Asia dated to more than 40,000 years ago, suggesting a cultural link - and hinting at still older rock art in Australia.
Cissy Gore-Birch, Chair of the Balanggarra Aboriginal Corporation, added: It s important that Indigenous knowledge and stories are not lost and continue to be shared for generations to come.
The coins have now been passed on to the University of Washington, as officials said they had no rightful owner.
Brian Humphrey, director of field operations for US Customs and Border Protection, said: “A private citizen like this would not normally be in possession of something like (ancient coins). That’s immediately suspicious.
The trove of coins will now be studied by students at the University of Washington, who will be offered a unique glimpse of the ancient artefacts.

Israel s Holy Temple is the single most important place of worship in the Hebrew World as, according to the Bible, it was designated to be the place where God would dwell among his people. For hundreds of years, this Temple stood in two incarnations atop the Temple Mount in the heart of ancient Jerusalem. But both the First and Second Temple were destroyed by foreign forces - the Babylonians in 587 BC and the Romans in 72 AD respectively - and have not been rebuilt since.
