A file photo of Mahabalipuram temple CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu has the third most numerous monuments and heritage sites in the country, all maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) but a majority of them lack even the basic amenities, a reply to the Lok Sabha has revealed. Of 412 such sites in the state, drinking water is available at just 78 sites and toilets ate available in 26 monuments. In reply to a question in Parliament s lower house recently, Union culture minister G Kishan Reddy said 283 monuments had approach pathways and 23 had parking facilities. While only one monument has Wi-Fi facility, none has audio guide/app based guide, the reply said, adding that 116 monuments in the state have signages. Only 21 monuments have benches, the reply said.

Highlights A portion of land outside mosque was given to Temple Trust The masjid committee got 100 sq ft land in exchange Varanasi: A portion of the land outside the Gyanvapi Masjid in Varanasi was handed over to the Kashi Vishwanath Temple Trust in exchange for another piece of land. The committee governing the mosque gave away 1,700 square feet of land to the Temple Trust. In return, it got land measuring 1,000 sq feet of the same value. “Both the plots are equal in value,” Sunil Verma, Chief Executive Officer of the Kashi Vishwanath Temple Trust was quoted as saying by PTI.
