CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu has the third most numerous monuments and heritage sites in the country, all maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) but a majority of them lack even the basic amenities, a reply to the Lok Sabha has revealed. Of 412 such sites in the state, drinking water is available at just 78 sites and toilets ate available in 26 monuments.
In reply to a question in Parliament s lower house recently, Union culture minister G Kishan Reddy said 283 monuments had approach pathways and 23 had parking facilities. While only one monument has Wi-Fi facility, none has audio guide/app based guide, the reply said, adding that 116 monuments in the state have signages. Only 21 monuments have benches, the reply said.
