DVIDS - News - Alaska National Guardsmen compete in annual TAG Match marksmanship competition

11 Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska The Alaska National Guard hosted its annual marksmanship competition sponsored by Maj. Gen. Torrence Saxe, the adjutant general of the Alaska National Guard, known as the TAG Match, at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson’s shooting range, May 15-16. “The TAG Match is the adjutant general’s annual marksmanship competition between both the Air Guard and the Army Guard, and we host the event so that all of our Soldiers and Airmen can compete against each other for honors of the best marksmen in the state,” said Maj. Allen Short, the officer in charge of the Small Arms Readiness Training Section for the Alaska National Guard.

Fire, Ice Floes Leave Alaska Village Without Drinking Water The Weather Channel 5/7/2021 Jan Wesner Childs First, people in the tiny Alaskan village of Tuluksak lost their water supply when the town s combined laundromat and water purification plant burned in a fire in January. Now, they find themselves once again facing a lack of running water thanks to seasonal ice floes in a nearby river. The fire hit on Jan. 16. Residents, who don t have running in their homes, relied on water from the plant to fill tanks for drinking water and other uses. Without the plant, that source was gone and deliveries of bottled water were delayed due to the weather, KYUK-AM reported.

National Guard Visits Tuluksak 3 Months After Water Plant Fire

Credit Olivia Ebertz / KYUK On April 8, members of the National Guard and other state officials visited the village of Tuluksak to meet with Tribal leaders and community members. The visit came nearly three months after a fire destroyed Tuluksak’s water plant. During the meeting, council members shared their current needs and discussed potential spring flooding. Snow swirled around the airstrip as a Black Hawk helicopter made its descent. The helicopter was carrying Maj. Gen. Torrence Saxe, the head of the Alaska National Guard. Also on board were other guard members, officials from the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation, a representative of the governor’s office, and KYUK s Olivia Ebertz.
