Thiruvananthapuram: Despite facing a host of controversies ahead of the civic body polls, Kerala’s ruling CPI-M-led Left Democratic Front was ahead of its rivals as counting of votes reached its final stages Wednesday, and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan appears to be on a high.
The opposition Congress-led United Democratic Front, which initially was seen putting up a better show in the first round of counting that began at 8 a.m., appears to have failed to make effective use of the numerous alleged scams of the Vijayan government.
A greater setback was evident for the BJP, which was seen promising that they will ride high, but failed to do so to the desired levels of their expectations.

NEW DELHI: In a big boost for chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, the CPM-led Left Democratic Front (LDF), while overcoming a host of controversies, was able to outperform the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) and the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the Kerala local body elections.
As per the latest trends, the UDF has been able to improve on its 2015 tally and narrowed the gap with the LDF. Likewise, the BJP also managed to fare slightly better in the three-tier structure, but fell far below its expectations as it was expecting to rule the Thiruvananthapuram corporation. Some rounds of counting are still left.

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 16 (IANS): Despite facing a host of controversies ahead of the Kerala civic body polls, as counting of votes reached midway on Wednesday, the ruling CPM-led LDF is ahead of its rivals and appears to be consolidating its position.
The opposition Congress-led UDF, which initially was seen putting up a better show in the first round of counting that began at 8 a.m., appears to have slightly dimmed, while the hype created by the BJP is yet to catch on.
The shocker came at the Kochi corporation, where the Congress s mayoral candidate N. Venugopal lost by just one vote to the BJP and for the Left there was one in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation when incumbent mayor K. Sreekumar had to bite the dust.
