Residents at Douro Place in Norwich have vented their frustrations at items such as mattresses being dumped, with limited bin capacity and missed collections identified as reasons for the issue.  Norwich City Council said on April 8 that weekly spot checks of the area would be introduced, and that environmental and waste collection teams would be contacted to ensure the site was cleared.

West Pottergate and Douro Place litter woes for residents

Mrs Carlo added: As you can imagine, residents want to dispose of their waste close to their homes and if the weather is poor, they don’t want to be wandering around looking for a bin with capacity. The bins should be swept on a regular basis and should be part of the council s basic services. Dorou Place resident John Cena, 48, said blue recycling bins have been missed on numerous occasions during collections.  Residents on Douro Place have reported missed bin collections and have requested more bins from the city council - Credit: John Cena He reported a bin being knocked over on April 1 causing rubbish to blow across the street which he personally picked up. The bins are also not being locked up and can be moved out of position.

Norwich park shut due to broken glass to be reopened

Bowers Avenue park has been shut due to the glass in the sandpits. - Credit: Archant A children s park, shut for months because council bosses could not afford to remove glass from its sandpits, is due to reopen by the summer. Vandals left shattered glass strewn over two sandpits in Bowers Avenue park, in Mile Cross, Norwich, during the coronavirus lockdown last year. It led to Norwich City Council closing the park. A sign on the gate stated it would have to remain shut due to the anti-social behaviour.
