GUWAHATI: The two-day Covid vaccination dry run concluded in Nalbari and Sonitpur districts of Assam on Tuesday.
Keeping January as the target to start the Covid-19 vaccination drive in the country, the Union ministry of health and family welfare had decided to conduct the dry run in Punjab, Assam, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat on Monday and Tuesday. Dry run is a mock drill where “no actual vaccination” happens and is a trial, including all steps, except the real vaccine and vaccination.
The dry-run process was rolled out at five types of session sites, including the Tezpur Medical College, Dhekiajuli CHC, Tezpur Urban Health Centre, Times Hospital (private) and No. 2 Health & Wellness Centre under Dhekiajuli BPHC in Sonitpur district, and in Nalbari District Civil Hospital, Ghograpar Block PHC, Sarathi Hospital (private), Balitara Mini-PHC and Urban Health Centre in Nalbari.
All eyes on Covid-19 vaccine now as dry run kicks off in four states
As the country eagerly awaits an expected coronavirus vaccination drive in January, a two-day end-to-end dry run was being carried out in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Assam and Punjab to provide insights into any gaps to be addressed before the commencement of the actual vaccination drive.

Dry runs of the Covid-19 vaccination programme were conducted on Monday in several centres in Punjab, Gujarat, Assam and Andhra Pradesh. The two-day exercise will conclude on December 29. India is expected to give its nod for emergency use of the Covid-19 vaccine manufactured by Oxford-AstraZeneca in the next few days.

Jamugurihat: Two persons died on the spot in a road mishap in Sonitpur district of Assam. The accident took place yesterday (Wednesday, December 16).
The deceased has been identified as Ananta Saikia (28) and Prashanta Medhi (30) residents of Rangachakua, Jamugurihat.
The accident took place around 9 pm at Jamugurihat, Sonipur district while they were out for some work on their bike. The two youth were travelling towards Balipara when the accident happened.

GUWAHATI: Over 10 per cent of the MBBS and BDS seats in the government medical colleges of Assam have remained vacant after the second round of all-India counselling and first round of state counselling this year.
Many students from outside the state have not shown interest in getting themselves enrolled in the 15 per cent all-India quota category available in the seven medical colleges of Assam where admissions are being held to fill up 1,000 seats in MBBS and BDS.
A notification issued by the directorate of medical education, Assam stated that among the state quota seats, 33 are lying vacant in MBBS, while 45 vacant seats are still unfilled in the BDS course. On the other hand, from the central quota, which constitutes 15 per cent of the total undergraduate medical seats, 54 MBBS seats and six BDS seats were lying vacant as on Sunday.
