You have a voice. You have a story. The life experiences you have, continue to add to your story. As your story continues, how often do you take the time to hear another person s story? How often do you take the time to listen to a person s story who is a different race than you? On Thursday, February 25, I had that opportunity when Two Steps from the Left Productions, with production assistance from Des Moines Playhouse, presented nature of the dream, a devised theatre piece that uplifts voices and stories regarding Black identity in Iowa.

The Iowa Renaissance Faire has yet to physically lure me in, but I have a handful of friends who have devoted much of their lives to this whole thing. In fact, I even have friends who travel year-round to participate in other renaissance fairs around the country. Des Moines native actress Cloris Leachman dead at 94

By Sue Danielson Jan 28, 2021 (Undated) Cloris Leachman, a Des Moines native who went on to a lifetime career in show business has died at the age of 94. Leachman performed in theater, movies, and TV. She won an Oscar for her role in The Last Picture Show, and eight prime time Emmys. She had 22 Emmy nominations. Leachman was likely best known for her role as Phyllis Lindstrom, the nosy neighbor on the Mary Tyler Moore TV Show. Another role Leachman portrayed Frau Blucher the Mel Brooks comedy movie classic Young Frankenstein. Leachman returned to Roosevelt High School on several occasions to talk with students. Roosevelt s stage and auditorium are named in her honor. Des Moines Roosevelt Drama Teacher Micheal Davenport says her career has been inspirational to his students. He says she was known for her comedic roles, but could do anything.
