Iowans with pre-existing conditions can receive COVID-19 vaccines

The Hawk Eye More Iowans now are eligible to get their COVID-19 vaccines thanks to a change to phase 1B announced Thursday by Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds. Starting Monday, people with pre-existing health conditions will be able to get the vaccines, said Christa Poggemiller, administrator of Des Moines County Public Health. Previously, phase 1B only included those 65 and older, but Reynolds announced Thursday the group will be expanded to those between the ages of 16 and 64 with pre-existing conditions. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there are 12 health conditions proven to cause complications and another 12 that are suspected to cause complications.
