GRANITE HILLS (CNS) - A 57-year-old motorist was killed Thursday in a solo crash on a winding rural road near El Cajon.
The San Diego man lost control of the westbound 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer he was driving on a curving stretch of Dehesa Road in the Granite Hills area for unknown reasons shortly after 4 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
The vehicle veered off the roadway east of Cunningham Lane, overturned and struck a utility pole, ejecting the driver and sole occupant, CHP public-affairs Officer Jeff Christy said.
EAST COUNTY
A 34-year-old man sustained major injuries Friday morning when he was struck by a van as he crossed an East County road, a California Highway Patrol officer said.
The incident happened about 5:30 a.m. when the man was crossing Dehesa Road, east of Burgasia Path, CHP Officer Travis Garrow said.
He was nearly across the road when he was struck by the front passenger’s side a 2013 Ford Transit van headed west on Dehesa.
Paramedics took the man to a hospital. The 66-year-old van driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Garrow said officers do not suspect that either alcohol or drugs played a role in the incident.
EAST COUNTY
A murder charge was dismissed Tuesday against a man accused in his friend’s shooting death last year at a rural East County property near Dehesa.
Daniel Christopher Allen, 50, was arrested on suspicion of murder in the Nov. 19 shooting death of 31-year-old James Owens. Allen previously faced 77 years to life in state prison had he been convicted of murder and several firearm-use allegations in connection with the shooting, which was reported around 10:30 p.m. on Stallion Oaks Road, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
Before deputies arrived, an acquaintance of Owens’ drove him about a mile and a half from the shooting scene, sheriff’s Lt. Thomas Seiver said.
