Thunberg was among various stakeholders invited to speak virtually to a U.S. House of Representatives panel during a hearing held on Earth Day, a day on which U.S. President Joe Biden pledged to slash U.S. greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2030.

Thank you, and first of all, thank you for inviting me and for holding this hearing. I don’t represent any financial or political interests. I’m not a lobbyist, so I can’t negotiate, make deals or compromise. I have nothing to offer you, nor am I a scientist. All I can do is to urge you to listen to and act on the science and to use your common sense. And I’m not even going to explain why we need to make real drastic changes and dramatically lower our emissions in line with overall current best available science. It is the year 2021. Ask the Master Gardener: Reinvigorating your roses
Don’t panic yet if you find black stems on rose bushes. Just cut them back and lightly fertilize as soon as the leaf buds start to open.

Dear Master Gardener: My roses have a lot of black stems this spring. Will they survive?
Answer: It depends. We didn’t have deep snow cover this winter and snow is an excellent insulator, so if you didn’t mulch well last fall, there could be trouble. However, if you have shrub roses that are hardy to Zone 3, or maybe Zone 4, you can cut the stems all the way back to the ground and they should regrow from the roots, true to the variety you planted. A total of 238 people attended February online presentations via Zoom given by University of Minnesota Extension Crow Wing County Master Gardeners.
195 people from Crow Wing County and many other Minnesota counties as well as Canada, Illinois and Wisconsin attended the February Zoom webinar, The Cutting Garden and Language of Flowers, cosponsored by University of Minnesota Extension Crow Wing County Master Gardeners and the Brainerd Public Library.
Crow Wing County Master Gardeners have been co-hosting garden presentations with the Brainerd Public Library since April 2013. The presentations are held at noon so people can attend during the lunch hour. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the March and April 2020 presentations were canceled and resumed in June via Zoom for the remainder of the year.
