The Marion Art Center introduces ‘All Things Art’ for tweens

MARION – “All Things Art” at the MAC is a new, immersive weeklong program in late summer for young artists ages 10-13. The program runs Monday-Friday, Aug. 2-6, from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. daily. In this survey of different media and practices, young artists will experiment with drawing, sculpting, printing on fabric, working with clay, and more. Learn how to talk about art making and what inspires one s creative choices. Some class time will be spent outdoors, weather permitting. The cost is $225 for MAC members and $265 for nonmembers, plus a $50 materials fee per student. Classes will take place in the downstairs MAC Studio or on the MAC lawn. This class can accommodate 8-12 young artists.

In New Bedford, there is an alley that runs between Pleasant Street and Purchase Street known as Sears Court. The eastern entrance of the alley is bookended by a Family Dollar store and the Greasy Luck bar and restaurant, the western side has a monastery on one side and a police station on the other.
There was never anything particularly memorable about that drab, much-used pedestrian throughway, except the treacherous winter ice and a catwalk above that connects two buildings on either side.
Until now. Up on the catwalk, the words “Sears Court” have been painted to resemble giant refrigerator alphabet magnets.
Dena Haden is well-known as the program director of the Co-Creative Center, a community center in New Bedford, where members can develop meaningful work about which they are enthusiastic, and nurture close and supportive professional relationships.
She is also a co-founder and active team member of SuperflatNB, an acclaimed organization devoted to the creation of murals in public spaces throughout the city.
In 2019, Haden studied in an executive program in Arts and Culture Strategy at the University of Pennsylvania School of Policy and Social Practice. The program was designed to develop skills for art managers and directors and it gave her the opportunity to add some gadgets to her metaphorical toolbox.
