BREAKING - Major drug seizure in Ringaskiddy, €12m worth of cocaine discovered on board cargo ship arriving into Cork harbour Gardaí and Customs officials have made a major drugs seizure following the discovery of around €12 million worth of cocaine aboard a cargo ship in Cork Harbour this afternoon.
Officers from the Garda National Drugs Unit and Customers officers found the drugs during a search of a refrigerated 40 foot container ship carrying fruit which was docked at Ringaskiddy Port.
Gardai are remaining tight lipped about the operation but it’s understood that so far they have found about 170 kilos of cocaine which they believe was destined for the Irish market

Documents were received from two economic entities with proposed trade names: the R-COVI solution for injections and the Gam-COVID-Vac combined vaccine (Sputnik V) to prevent the coronavirus infection, the statement said. It noted that these preparations will be authorized in Moldova after their quality and efficacy are confirmed.
The agency specified that preparations by Pfizer, AstraZeneca and Moderna are also in the process of authorization in the republic which it plans to obtain through the COVAX platform. As part of an intelligence led joint operation conducted by Revenue s Customs Service and Gardaí from Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB), approximately 129kgs of suspected cannabis herb, with an estimated street value of €2.58 million, was seized in the Lusk area, last Wednesday (February 3).
Two men, aged 45 and 52 were arrested and detained in Balbriggan and Dun Laoghaire Garda Stations, pursuant to the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996.
Investigations are ongoing.
Commenting on the seizure, Mick Gilligan, head of Investigations and Prosecutions Division for Revenue said: I would like to reiterate the benefits of the joint working arrangements with An Garda Síochána National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau and compliment officers from both agencies who contributed to this successful operation.
