COLOMBO (News1st): The government’s primary strategy to combat COVID-19 is vaccination, health minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi has said.
Speaking in Parliament, the health minister pointed out that vaccines can be administered after receiving the approval of the National Medicines Regulatory Authority.
“We have placed an order for 13 million doses of the Russian Sputnik vaccine,” she said.
The minister added that 8.4 million doses of the AztraZeneca vaccine through the World Health Organization’s COVAX facility, and 5 million Pfizer-BioNtech vaccines will be imported this year.
“We possess the ability to fully vaccinate more than 60% of our total population before the end of this year,” Wanniarachchi noted.
