01 Apr 2021 : Nathan Griffin Editor John OConnor We caught up with John OConnor, one of the editors on Treasure Entertainments drama Smother, to find out more about the impact of Covid on the editing process, collaborating with director Dathaí Keane, and delivering the series via remote working.
A graduate of the National Film School, O’Connor editing work primarily lies in drama and comedy, having started his career at Windmill Lane in 2006. His credits include films such as John Butler’s
Handsome Devil (2016) and Stephen Burke’s
Maze (2017), documentary such as Making The Grade (2018), and TV drama such as BBC’s

Krysantemum follows a young man called Anders (played by
Morten Hee Andersen), who is involved in illegal firework sales. Anders must make amends with his father, Thomas (
Henrik Birch), whom he hasn t spoken to for years following a tragedy, as they try to save their family farm. The film has been described as an “explosive” family drama that presents an emotional and thrilling look at a family involved in illegal transportation and sales, and their search for forgiveness.

Caoimhe Gallagher Lawson, of Creevelea, Drumkeerin, was announced as the winner of the First Frame Student Films Award in the Experimental Category at the Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival 2021 for her short film Snake and Wolf . Caoimhe, who is a 2nd year student at the National Film School at IADT, has gathered a number of awards for her filmmaking over the last few years.
She is the granddaughter of Anna and the later Pat Gallagher MRCVS, Mohill.
Caoimhe says I am really delighted to win this award, it is wonderful and very encouraging. Caoimhe thanked Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival 2021 for the opportunity to show her work and for her selection as an award winner. She also thanked her lecturers at IADT for their guidance and support. She finally thanked her mother Blaithin Gallagher who she described as being her “rock”.
