County commissioners approve lease, grants

GALLIPOLIS The Gallia County Board of Commissioners recently approved the minutes from the May 6 meeting where they discussed an agreement for the county jail project.
Commissioners approved a lease agreement with Granger Construction for the jail project. The agreement states the lease is $1,200 per month from May 1, 2021 through Aug. 15, 2022.
During the meeting, commissioners approved travel requests for Sherry Daines and Tim Miller to Logan for the Ohio EMA Sector Meeting and Elisha Orsbon to Bellefontaine for OhioSE/Small Nations.
The weekly canine shelter report was given for the week ending in May 2. Eleven animals came into the shelter, 11 were sent to rescue, two were reclaimed, and six remain at the shelter.

TRINIDAD and Tobago will have a National Day of Prayer on Sunday, May 23, the Prime Minister said in a Facebook post on his page on Friday.
A service will be broadcast live on TTT.
Newsday was unable to get any further details, as up to press time neither Dr Rowley nor Minister of Communications Symon de Nobriga had responded to queries.
As May 23 was set as the intended date for the end of current strictures aimed at curbing the spread of covid19, it seems likely the day of prayer is aimed at addressing the pandemic.

BETHESDA Area residents turned out in groups large and small to mark the National Day of Prayer on Thursday with a message of unity, community and asking God for strength to bear up during difficult times.
At St. Clairsville, about 40 people gathered under a tent on the plaza in front of the Belmont County Courthouse.
Last year, the COVID-19 pandemic meant the in-person gathering could not occur, and the faithful viewed a livestreamed event. Organizers said attendees were excited Thursday.
The Rev. Leonard Payne, chaplain of the Family Life Ministry Center Assemblies of God in Bridgeport, was the speaker. He spoke about the importance of hearing God’s call and witnessing love, forgiveness and mercy rather than worldly matters.
