A driver who struck three vehicles while trying to evade police officers in a brief, high-speed car chase in Escondido on Thursday was arrested after they crashed into a pole and came to a stop after a rollover crash.
The chase began when an off-duty San Diego Police Department lieutenant saw a driver in a box truck hit multiple curbs near San Pasqual High School. In his unmarked department cruiser, the lieutenant activated his sirens in an effort to have the truck in question pull over.

National City is the latest San Diego County community to adopt a cannabis ordinance, but it is the first to allow consumption lounges, following a City Council vote Tuesday.
In a 4-1 vote, with Councilman Ron Morrison opposed, the ordinance lays out the framework for allowing retail sales, cultivation, distribution, manufacturing and transportation of cannabis and cannabis products in industrial zones and tourist commercial areas west of Interstate 5. It is expected to take effect in 30 days.
The council’s decision came over the objections of the National City Planning Commission and several members of the public, who cited data on the consequences of marijuana use and said allowing businesses, like consumption lounges, is not consistent with the city’s family values.

SWAT snipers shot and killed a wanted man April 13 after they reported seeing him armed with a gun and “holding back” his girlfriend at the end of a long standoff at San Diego High School, according to video released Thursday.
The body-worn camera footage released by San Diego police showed the moments before two SWAT snipers killed 36-year-old Christopher Templo Marquez, as well as the moments afterward, when SWAT officers swarmed a dumpster where Marquez had holed up with his girlfriend.
Because of Marquez’s position in the trash bin, and the positions SWAT officers had taken up for safety, the footage did not capture Marquez being shot.
