DOWNTOWN SAN DIEGO  SWAT snipers shot and killed a wanted man April 13 after they reported seeing him armed with a gun and “holding back” his girlfriend at the end of a long standoff at San Diego High School, according to video released Thursday. The body-worn camera footage released by San Diego police showed the moments before two SWAT snipers killed 36-year-old Christopher Templo Marquez, as well as the moments afterward, when SWAT officers swarmed a dumpster where Marquez had holed up with his girlfriend. Because of Marquez’s position in the trash bin, and the positions SWAT officers had taken up for safety, the footage did not capture Marquez being shot.

Woman with National City fugitive in deadly standoff arrested for accessory, other charges

NATIONAL CITY    A woman who hunkered down overnight in a San Diego trash bin alongside a fugitive during a SWAT standoff had spent several days on the run with him, a National City police official said Wednesday. Janeth Iriarte, 33, was with fugitive Christopher Marquez during an 11-hour standoff that ended Tuesday morning when San Diego police shot Marquez to death, fearing he was about to kill Iriarte. Police pulled Iriarte from the container uninjured. Hours later, National City police booked Iriarte into jail on suspicion of vehicle theft and being an accessory to a crime after the fact. She is accused of helping Marquez lay low after he opened fire on police in the South County city last week. It’s not clear if or when she will be arraigned on the charges, and it was not immediately known if she had an attorney.
