The first garden club in America was founded in January 1891 by The Ladies’ Garden Club of Athens, Georgia. On May 1, 1929, thirteen states became charter members of National Garden Clubs, Inc. at an organizational meeting in Washington, D.C. Since then Garden Club has grown to all 50 states and the District of Columbia with more than 200,000 members. Garden Club has 70 affiliates within the US and 300 international affiliates.
