With digital skills, PLWD should be job employers, rather than job seekers – Pantami

By Emmanuel Elebeke The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami has said that with adequate knowledge, skills and resources, Persons Living with Special Needs can be job employers, rather than job seekers. The Minister stated this at the closing ceremony of the 5-day training programme for People Living With Disabilities (PLWD’S) organized by the National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA at Enugu State. Pantami, while giving his closing remarks, said that the population of persons living with special needs in the world is over 785 million, according to the World Health Organization, which is almost four times the population of Nigeria as a country.

Cyber Terrorists Causing Ethnic Religious Tension In Nigeria — Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has said the extant tension in Nigeria is caused by cybercriminals, online financial fraudsters and cyber terrorists. In a statement issued through Femi Adesina, his spokesman, Buhari called for an overhaul of the national strategy on cybersecurity. According to the statement, Buhari, who spoke at the launch of the National Cybersecurity Policy and Strategy 2021 in Abuja, stressed the need to explore the internet for economic growth opportunities, enhancement of knowledge and mitigation of crime. The President noted that the Nigerian government had taken some major policy decisions to increase penetration of the internet in the daily lives of citizens, particularly for the utilitarian purpose.

He stated this at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, while unveiling the National Cyber Security Policy and Strategy for 2021. Noting that the country was currently at a turning point in its history, President Buhari said Nigeria’s young and vibrant population had the potential to exploit Internet revolution in developing the economy and improving national security. He said Nigeria was also witnessing upsurge in adoption of Internet and social media for almost all aspects of its daily life, and therefore, the Internet or cyberspace had become central and indispensable to national development.
