Huawei opened its first Digix Lab in the Asia Pacific in Singapore to empower developers and partners for the HMS ecosystem.
This is one of the programs that the leading global tech company initiated to cultivate a diverse tech ecosystem and accelerate the digital transformation in the region, Huawei Asia Pacific spokesperson told the media on 25 February during the MWC Shanghai 2021.
Located at Changi Business Park, Huawei leverages Singapore’s importance as a growing technological hub in Asia Pacific, boosting the mobile ecosystem throughout the region. Equipped with AR, VR, HMS Core Kits, and other open technological capabilities, the lab is designed to support developers of all levels throughout their mobile app development journey.

Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) has launched a US$40 million (approximately SG$52.8 million) innovation hub named DIGIX LAB in Singapore. Located at Changi Business Park, the hub aims to boost the mobile ecosystem in the APAC region by empowering mobile app developers and partners. Equipped with tech tools such as AR, VR, AI, and more, Huawei said the lab is a space for developers to meet and get hands-on experience on the full range of developer resources from HMS. The DIGIX Lab services can also be accessed online, allowing developers across the region to make use of the resources without physically travelling to Singapore.
Huawei also pledged to work with its partners to offer more localised apps on its AppGallery appstore, on which more than 90% of the most popular apps in Singapore were available and had integrated with HMS Core developer framework. Grab, for instance, was the latest to join the platform last month, joining others such as Singapore s COVID-19 contact tracing app TraceTogether, DBS Bank, and ComfortDelGro. The country s e-government app SingPass also was slated to be available in the first half of this year.
When asked, Huawei said it could not divulge the number of registered developers in Singapore, but said there were more than 2.3 million worldwide, as of end-2020. This figure was a 77% increase from the previous year, a spokesperson told ZDNet.
