Healthcare Workers Celebrated on National Nurses Day

9 & 10 News May 6, 2021 May 6 is recognized as National Nurse’s Day, and those in the field are being celebrated for their hard work through the pandemic.  They’ve put themselves on the front lines of battling COVID-19, and were some of the first groups of people eligible to receive the vaccine so they could care for others safely.   While today many are recognizing those in the profession, this whole week is designed to show them gratitude for what they do.   Chief Nursing Officer at War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie, Marla Bunker said they’re spending some time celebrating the day.

It’s National Nurses’ Day, the start of National Nurses’ Week, and more than a year of being among those on the front lines of the COVID 19 outbreak, Chief Nursing Officer Linda Schaltz of Spectrum Health-Zeeland Community Hospital and her colleagues have had to be flexible and durable. “Many of our team members over the last year have worked additional hours to insure that we can care for patients,” she said on “WHTC Wellspring” during the weekly segment on Thursday. “Many of them had cross-trained, from the department in which they had been working, to a new department, in order to help where there was a greater need.
