LocalGov co uk - Your authority on UK local government - Swindon wins again on Eastern Village infrastructure cash

Swindon wins again on Eastern Village infrastructure cash Swindon Borough Council has scooped another tranche of roads cash for the planned New Eastern Villages development, with the Department for Transport (DfT) allocating a further £11.6m to supporting works. In total, the Southern Connector Road project is estimated to cost £30.5m, with Homes England providing a further £18.9m from the Housing Infrastructure Fund, on top of the DfT cash. The project includes a new access road between the A419 Commonhead roundabout and the southern end of the new development, enabling the construction of 4,150 new homes . There will also be a footway and shared-use path running either side of the new road for pedestrians and cyclists, while a new signalised junction at Commonhead and a mini roundabout at Wanborough village will help manage traffic flow in the area.

The seven roads with the most potholes in Hereford

AN online map from Herefordshire Council has revealed there are currently dozens of potholes in Hereford waiting to be filled in. The information from Herefordshire Council does not give a target repair date for defects in progress , but does show when they were reported and, once they have been repaired, the date this was completed. It shows some potholes which have already been filled in were done within 24 hours, but some took more than three weeks to be repaired. Holme Lacy Road between Rotherwas and the A49 Ross Road currently has the most potholes which have been reported to the council. There are 14 currently awaiting repair along the mile stretch of road, with another four on the Straight Mile after the railway bridge.

RAC concerned by continuing pothole problems despite reduced traffic levels

Date: 18 January 2021   |   Author: Sean Keywood Lower traffic levels did not lead to an improvement in the condition of UK roads at the end of 2020, according to RAC statistics. The organisation says that 0.9% of its breakdown patrol calls during the final three-months of the year were to pothole-related issues. Although this was down on the previous quarter, it was identical to the same period in 2019, and slightly higher than in 2018. According to the RAC, this is a matter of concern, since the lower traffic levels brought about by the coronavirus pandemic should have meant less damage being caused to road surfaces.
