Picture: FILE Indigenous Fijians recorded the highest number of arrests for illicit drug cases in Fiji over the past five years. This, according to Fiji Police Force’s director strategic plan, Senior Superintendent of Police Aporosa Lutunauga. Speaking during the National Community Policing Symposium at the Pearl Resort yesterday, he said 4902 drug cases were recorded between 2016 and 2020, out of which 71 per cent involved iTaukei. He said those arrested for illicit drugs cases were as young as 18 years and the oldest were more than 55 years old. Out of the cases recorded, 95 per cent were males. Crime Prevention Committee Eastern Division chairman Semi Matalau said the trade and consumption of hard drugs in Fiji was a serious concern.
