Many cities that shut streets during the pandemic are looking at how to keep some of the changes in place. (Toni L. Sandys/The Washington Post) Paris barred most cars from the majestic road that goes past the Louvre Museum, then months later announced it would keep it that way. New York followed suit, making permanent a program that clears space on public roads for walking, biking and, in the case of 34th Avenue in Queens, Mexican folk dance classes.

New Design: Atlanta Department Of City Planning Helps Business Owners With Parklets

The National Association of City Transportation Officials defines parklets as public seating platforms that revamp curbside parking spaces into vibrant community spaces. Atlanta City Planning Commissioner Tim Keane says Atlanta was originally designed for driving only, but the city must now shift its design to include walking, cycling and different forms of transit. Keane and Vanessa Lira, design assistant director for the city of Atlanta, were guests on Monday’s edition of “Closer Look.” They talked with show host Rose Scott about how and why the city is working with local Atlanta restaurant owners to provide resources to install parklets throughout the city and how the test project could potentially become permanent, reduce congestion and enhance the vibrancy of city streets.

Dear City of Temple, Please Fix the Stop Lights at I-35 and Adams

Dear City of Temple, Please Fix the Stop Lights at I-35 and Adams I feel like I m a pretty patient man, but the wait time at the red lights on the overpass at I-35 and West Adams/Airport is testing my patience daily. Maybe I m getting to be that old man that likes to scream at the kids stay off my lawn , but the more I sit at the lights on the overpass of I-35 and West Adams/Airport, the more I feel like I m losing my ability to wait it out. The studios here at US105 are just off that exit, so I have found myself hitting those lights pretty frequently over the last year and a half. No matter which way I m going, the wait at those red lights is ridiculously too long.
