Senator Wallace says it will help people near and far understand Blytheville’s significant role in the Cold War.
“It’s history,” Senator Wallace said. “We don’t realize, but at one time, and I’m glad I didn’t know this when I was younger, we were number nine or number ten on the nuclear target list for the Soviet Union there on Blytheville Air Force Base because of the said base that was there.”

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KAIT) - The winter weather that hammered the state of Arkansas kept lawmakers away from the state Capitol last week.
However, warmer temperatures have unthawed many roads, clearing the way for debate to continue Monday in Little Rock.
There are several key issues on the agenda this week at the Capitol, including the debate over the Stand Your Ground bill.

Efforts to create a
Cold War museum at the former
Eaker Air Force Base in Blytheville got a boost this week with legislation introduced by Arkansas’s senators to designate it as the
National Cold War Center.
As written, the bill doesn’t provide specific federal support, but said it is intended to ensure preservation of the museum’s collection and “provide and support a facility for the 17 public display of the artifacts, photographs, and personal histories of the Cold War years.”

Washington, D.C. – Senators Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas) and John Boozman (R-Arkansas) have introduced a bill that would designate the museum at Eaker Air Force Base in Blytheville as the National Cold War Center.

“Eaker Air Force Base played a key role in the defense of our nation during the Cold War we ought to preserve its legacy and encourage the continued education of future generations. Our bill will officially recognize the museum in Blytheville as the nation’s National Cold War Center, which will help preserve this important history and be a boon to local tourism,” said Cotton.
