Three political parties in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) signed a protocol Tuesday after reaching an agreement to form a coalition government.
The protocol was signed by the National Unity Party (UBP), Democratic Party (DP) and Rebirth Party (YDP) at the TRNC’s Assembly of the Republic by UBP Vice Chairperson Ersan Saner, DP Chairperson Fikri Ataoglu and YDP Chairperson Erhan Arikli in the presence of representatives of all three parties.
Saner said in a statement that they reached an agreement with the DP and YDP after he was assigned to form the government by President Ersin Tatar on Monday.

Of the 11 pro-tem committee members in SUP, at least 8 have had former affiliations with the Reform Party. Mr Zhu, Mr Soh and Ms Noraini were part of the Reform Party team which contested in the 5-men Ang Moh Kio Group Representation Constituency in the 2020 General Election. Reform Party’s secretary-general Kenneth Jeyaretnam and its current chairman, Charles Yeo, were the others who contested in the same constituency.

Soon after the electoral contest, the Reform Party announced that Mr Zhu and Ms Noraini, who was its Treasurer, were stepping down. Mr Zhu however contested the announcement alleging “undemocratic” means were used by the Party to oust him from Office. Mr Jeyaretnam disputed this saying, “(Mr Zhu) was removed by a unanimous vote of the CEC”.

SINGAPORE: The new Workers Party (WP) Central Executive Committee (CEC) has a good balance of old and new faces, and threw up few surprises, analysts told CNA.
On Sunday (Dec 27), the opposition party s cadre members elected five new faces to its top leadership while retaining Ms Sylvia Lim as chair and Mr Pritam Singh as secretary-general.

Activists have asked the US to impose targeted sanctions on senior leaders of the Ugandan police force, following the arrest of human rights lawyer Nicholas Opiyo.
Police on Tuesday arrested Mr Opiyo, a human rights lawyer and Executive Director of Chapter Four Uganda. Mr Opiyo was at a restaurant with four other lawyers when he was reportedly blindfolded and bundled in a car by plainclothes officers.
