SINGAPORE - When erstwhile Workers Party chief Low Thia Khiang announced he would not run in the election this year, it was not a decision sparked by a fall at home, according to a new book by WP member and Non-Constituency MP Yee Jenn Jong.
The veteran politician s plan to step down had already been in the works from as early as 2016 following a leadership challenge at the leading opposition party.
The high degree of planning has come to define the WP brand.

The prime minister of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) on Sunday was elected head of the National Unity Party (UBP), a major coalition partner, at its 12th extraordinary congress.
In a speech, Ersan Saner thanked all party delegates for their support. “We are determined to keep the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus alive forever. We are proud to be an integral part of the Turkish nation,” he said at the congress in Lefkosa, the TRNC capital.
The coalition government, headed by the UBP, was approved by President Ersin Tatar on Dec. 9.

The negotiations on a federation model for the solution of the Cyprus issue will be a waste of time without basing it upon the two states on the island, according to the new prime minister of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
Upon forming the government early this month, Ersan Saner spoke to Anadolu Agency over priorities of the newly formed coalition government, the partially opened town of Maras, the Cyprus issue, the policies they will adopt in the Eastern Mediterranean, and the relations between Turkey and the TRNC.
