Enfield Native Wins Statewide Coaching Award In Massachusetts

(St. John s Preparatory School) DANVERS, MA When Billy McSheffrey played ice hockey and baseball at Fermi High School in the early 2000s, the team nickname was the Falcons. A decade after his graduation in 2005, he went to work as strength and conditioning coach of the Springfield Falcons, the American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL s Arizona Coyotes. Since Fermi s consolidation with Enfield High School in 2016, the local teams are now known as the Eagles. Coincidentally, McSheffrey s current career stop finds him working with a different group of Eagles, as strength and conditioning coordinator at St. John s Preparatory School, about 20 miles from Boston.

St. John’s Prep strength coach receives national honor Community Content St. John’s Prep strength and conditioning coordinator Billy McSheffrey has been named the 2021 Massachusetts Coach of the Year by the National High School Strength Coaches Association.  The annual honor recognizes a scholastic strength and conditioning coach for achievements in the field and passion for the profession. State Coach Of The Year winners are chosen by their peers across the commonwealth. “This is a great honor from the NHSSCA, but our program isn’t about one person,” said McSheffrey, 33, a native of Connecticut who now lives in south Boston. “This is a reflection of the talented, hard-working strength coaches we have on staff, the ceaseless support of our Mahoney Wellness Center staff and the Prep’s dedicated athletic staff and coaches. In Windermere boys basketball’s heartbreaking 62-59 loss at the hands of Orlando Christian Prep at the Showdown in O-Town Saturday, Jan. 9, point guard Trey Moss had a solid showing. The senior racked up 21 points on seven three-pointers for the Wolverines. Teammate Kanye Jones added 18 points, while Jalen Debose recorded 13 points. In the game, the Wolverines knocked down 14 shots from deep. 2. In CFCA boys basketball’s 69-58 win over The Master’s Academy Friday, Jan. 8, Imanuel Zorgvol led the way for the Eagles. The senior big man went off for 23 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks in the win. The win moved the Eagles to 8-4 on the season.
