Matt Whitehead Selected to Succeed Jack Kenney on Park Board
The Decatur Park Board of Commissioners has selected a candidate to fill the unexpired term of Commissioner Jack Kenny. On Tuesday, the Decatur Park Board of Commissioners unanimously selected Matt Whitehead to be appointed to complete the remaining two-year term.
The Board’s appointment of Whitehead to the vacant Commissioner position endorses its goal of having individuals in leadership positions who are involved in the community, committed to serving the Park District, and bring desirable skills to the Board’s leadership.
“The Board of Commissioners was impressed by Mr. Whitehead’s experience, organizational leadership skills, finance background and history of board service which are qualifications we felt made him an excellent candidate for this appointment. His passion to give back and do all he can to help this community be the best it can be matches the mission of the Park District,” stated Stacey Young,
The Decatur Park Board of Commissioners welcomes the community to share ideas and suggestions on Wednesday, April 21 from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Hickory Point Banquet Facility or online via Zoom to help prioritize improvements for the Decatur Park District Parks & Recreation Master Plan Update.
“This is a process we engage in about every ten years as a best practice. Public input is critical to address where the community’s priorities lie and how we can plan to adapt to the ever-changing landscape of the parks and recreation industry,” stated Bill Clevenger, Executive Director of the Decatur Park District.
The public meeting will be held in-person, compliant with current CDC, IDPH and Macon County Health Department recommendations. It will also be streamed online via Zoom.com by using Meeting ID: 828 7296 3585 with Passcode: PARKS.

Kenny Retiring, Candidates Sought to Fill Term on Park Board
The Decatur Park Board of Commissioners welcomes the submission of applications for the unexpired 6-year term of Commissioner Jack Kenny, who will retire from the board on March 4, 2021 after 28 years of service. The unexpired term has two years remaining and ends with the election cycle of April 2023.
“We are honored that Mr. Kenny has been the longest serving Park Board Commissioner in the history of the Decatur Park District and thank him for his contributions to the agency’s advancement over nearly three decades,” stated Stacey Young, Decatur Park Board President.
