The pandemic has opened a fresh debate around the future of 5G in India. Infrastructure requirements could further delay its launch

The Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce (ICCC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Telecom Equipment Manufacturers Association of India (TEMA) to promote investment and manufacturing under the country’s AtmaNibhar Bharat initiative.
TEMA will also join as a partner organization for CONNEXT 2021, ICCC’s 10 days-10 states Virtual Trade Mission to India from June 11 to 25.
Ravi Sharma, Chairman TEMA welcoming the MOU, said, “Partnering with Canada is one of the milestone steps for AtmaNirbhar Bharat which will pay way for development of technology, investments, manufacturing and export market to Canada. We look forward for wonderful opportunities for satellite communication, safe cyber technologies, trusted telecom products, next generation telecom and ICT technologies.”

Telecom infrastructure and OEM sectors employed a total of 76,000 personnel (direct and indirect) in 2019
To meet the rise in demand for connectivity as digitalisation and Work From Home (WFH) gain ground, India’s telecom infrastructure and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are expected to recruit nearly 3,500-5,000 personnel in calendar year 2021. This will increase the total employee base in telecom infrastructure and OEM space to about 85,200.
This would be a slight increase from 2020, when infrastructure and OEM firms recruited about 4,200 direct and indirect jobs. This year, telecom operators are expected to add another 3,000 employees to their total workforce, compared with a relatively flat 2020, according to human resource company TeamLease Services.
