Staff reports
SHONGO The Hoodie Hoo Day 2021 event to be held Feb. 13 at Mama’s Smokin BBQ in Shongo has been canceled due to COVID-19 restrictions, event organizer Bill Dibble announced.
Dibble, an Allegany County legislator, encouraged area residents to observe the unofficial holiday at home in lieu of the usual gathering. Hoodie Hoo Day is a day where everyone goes outside at noon to shake their fists at the sky and shouts Hoodie Hoo to scare away winter. Hoodie Hoo Day was created and copyrighted by Thomas Roy of Lebanon, Pa. in the late 1980s.
