The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame revealed which of this year’s nominees would be inducted at the ceremony on Oct. 30 in Cleveland, Ohio, on Wednesday morning.
Veteran alt-rockers Foo Fighters, pioneers of the new wave movement The Go- Go’s, East Coast hip-hop legend Jay-Z, Carole King, mercurial rock savant Todd Rundgren, and Queen of Rock n’ Roll Tina Turner are among the Class of 2021.
Turner, King, and Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters are already Rock Hall inductees for 2021: King was inducted into the Rock Hall as a singer and non-performer as part of the songwriting duo Goffin/King; Turner for her explosive work in the R&B duo Ike & Tina Turner; and Grohl as the drummer of grunge pioneers Nirvana.

Does Hip-Hop Have a Place in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame?
Earlier this week, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced their 2021 inductees,
Jay-Z and LL Cool J topped the list as the most prominent rappers to be inducted. Hip-Hop artists began gaining recognition from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007 when Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five were recognized.
Since 2007 less than ten hip-hop acts have been enshrined into the Hall, most of which being group acts. Run DMC, the Beastie Boys, Public Enemy, and NWA all received their roses before 2016, then Tupac (2017) was the first solo rapper to land in the Rock & Roll Hall followed by Biggie’s induction in 2020.

Jay-Z, Foo Fighters and the Go-Go s were elected Wednesday to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame their first time on the ballot, leading a class that also includes Tina Turner, Carole King and Todd Rundgren. Each will be honored during an induction ceremony in Cleveland on October 30 before what organizers hope is a full house of fans enjoying live music again.
The hall will also welcome LL Cool J, Billy Preston and Randy Rhoads with musical excellence awards, and honor Kraftwerk, Gil Scott Heron and Charley Patton as early influencers.

The 36th Annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place Saturday, Oct. 30, at 8 p.m. ET at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland. The program will air on HBO.
To be eligible for this year’s ballot, each nominee’s first recorded single or album had to have been released more than 25 years before their induction.
