Does Hip-Hop Have a Place in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame?
Earlier this week, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced their 2021 inductees,
Jay-Z and LL Cool J topped the list as the most prominent rappers to be inducted. Hip-Hop artists began gaining recognition from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007 when Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five were recognized.
Since 2007 less than ten hip-hop acts have been enshrined into the Hall, most of which being group acts. Run DMC, the Beastie Boys, Public Enemy, and NWA all received their roses before 2016, then Tupac (2017) was the first solo rapper to land in the Rock & Roll Hall followed by Biggie’s induction in 2020.
