Post-Brexit Special: UK business leaders on access to EU talent

Post-Brexit Special: UK business leaders on access to EU talent Since the turn of the year, UK companies exporting into the EU have to fill out a set of customs declaration forms and some goods, like agricultural products, have to undergo rigorous checks at the border. Today, business leaders zoom in on what the end of freedom of movement means for their firms and discuss future access to EU talent following the end of the transition period on 31 December.

REUTERS/Neil Hall/File Photo Numbers of European Union-born professionals working in the UK’s skilled construction and building trade dropped off by 46% in 2019. That’s according to new research released by the Migration Observatory at the University of Oxford. In 2018, ONS data listed 208,000 EU-born construction professionals. This petered off to a total of 113,000 the following year. Construction industry experts now warn that the exodus of skilled EU workers is the result of Brexit, as well as COVID-19, and requires immediate government attention to avoid staff shortages.
