Thirty-nine new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed Saturday in the Sarnia area hours after the entire province was locked down for a third time in the past year due to the ongoing pandemic.
The regionâs active caseload also jumped 21 to 197, Lambton public health reported. More than 130 of the 2,917 total cases have screened positive for a variant of concern, the health unit reported.

Nearly half of those have been identified as the U.K. variant thatâs more transmissible and potentially more severe, officials have said. What variants the other cases are is still being tested.
