Peddapalli (Telangana) [India], May 28 (ANI): Stepping up enforcement, police in Telangana's Peddapalli district rounded up those found violating lockdown rules and sent them to non-Covid isolation centres.
NEW DELHI: Santosh Majhi had accepted his lot in life. Rs 10 a day for 16 hours of work at the brick kiln in Telangana’s Peddapalli. Home was far away in Odisha and seemed further away with each passing day. Like others in his village, he had believed the man who promised to pay off his debt in exchange for work. A year in, he had realised he was in bondage. But when the representative of a human rights organisation got in touch, he and the 360 others with him refused to leave.
“They were not willing. They said there was too much poverty back home, money lenders would hound them and all prospects of jobs had dried up because of the pandemic. So, they had decided to simply submit to the atrocities,” Dr K Krishnan, executive director of Foundation for Sustainable Development, which eventually did rescue them, told TOI.

Congress leaders meet TS Governor, demand ‘court monitored CBI probe’ into lawyer-couple murder

Hyderabad: Congress leaders led by Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Uttam Kumar Reddy met Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan on Friday and demanded a fair probe into the murders of advocates Gattu Vaman Rao and PV Nagamani, who were killed in broad daylight in Telangana’s Peddapalli district last week.
TPCC President Uttam Kumar Reddy, speaking to ANI said, “The recent incident where two High Court advocates were hacked to death on a highway in broad daylight by Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) party activists in Manthani Assembly Constituency has shaken the Telangana state.”

Hyderabad: The gruesome murder of an advocate couple in broad daylight in Telangana’s Peddapalli district on Wednesday and alleged involvement of functionaries of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) may add to the woes of the ruling party as the opposition parties are trying to corner it.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress were quick to target TRS over the alleged involvement of its local leader in the killing of Gattu Vamana Rao and his wife Nagamani and sought inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or judicial probe.
