Charges filed in fatal shooting in Newton
A 16-year-old boy has been charged with first degree murder for the shooting death of a teenage girl in Newton.
The Harvey County Attorney’s Office said the boy has also been charged with aggravated battery, aggravated assault and criminal threat.
Police said the boy showed up at a home in the 900 block of South Walnut Street on Sunday night, July 11th. Witnesses reported that the boy was waving a handgun and pointing it at several people. A shot was fired, killing a 14-year-old girl.
Harvey County officials are not releasing the names of the suspect and victim, but family members have identified the victim as 14-year-old Madison Parrott of Hesston.
