Man hospitalised after alleyway assault in South Molton

Published: 10:13 AM April 15, 2021    The reported assault took place in an alley way between the Spar shop, in Broad Street, and South Molton Museum - Credit: Google Devon and Cornwall Police are investigating reports of a serious assault in South Molton on Saturday, April 3, and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.  A 21-year-old local man received hospital treatment for a broken jaw and fractured skull as a result of the incident.  The reported assault took place at around 9.30pm on Saturday, April, 3 in an alley way between the Spar shop, in Broad Street, and South Molton Museum.  A 19-year-old man from South Molton was arrested on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm with intent and an 18-year-old man, also from South Molton, was arrested on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm.

Rapid coronavirus tests now available across Devon

Free rapid testing for Covid to be stepped up. - Credit: CCC Every adult in Devon is being encouraged to take a rapid, lateral flow test for coronavirus twice a week, and now they can do so in a variety of ways including through testing centres, workplaces, pharmacies, or home delivery.  The tests are fast and convenient, and results are usually available within the hour.  Rapid lateral flow tests are for people who show no symptoms of coronavirus – the new and continuous cough, high temperature, or change to their usual sense of taste or smell.  People with these symptoms should immediately self-isolate and arrange a PCR test via the NHS.

With over 1,200 samples, the Norman Govier Collection of Minerals & Fossils has been amassed over two lifetimes by two different collectors, both with a passion for uncovering and cataloguing these ancient natural items.  Rare and interesting specimens include a Megalodon tooth from the Miocene period, a Mosasaur tooth from the Cretaceous era and Mammoth bone from the Pliocene epoch, and exotic stones including crocidolite from South Africa, agate from Brazil and desert rose from Sicily. Many pieces have been collected from the South West region including Dartmoor, Exmoor, and Cornwall.  

North Devon Council Customer Service offices due to reopen

Lynton House in Barnstaple - Credit: Google Customer Service Advisors at North Devon Council are getting ready to open the office doors to the public again following the closure due to a third lockdown.  From Monday, April 12, Lynton House, Barnstaple and The Ilfracombe Centre will be open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9am - 1pm. The Amory Centre in South Molton will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9am - 1pm and 2pm - 5pm and Friday 9am - 12 noon and 1pm - 3:30pm.  Customers will be required to wear a mask, unless exempt, follow social distancing rules and make use of the hand sanitiser provided.
