(Undated) A proposed wind farm offshore from Rhode Island that would carry electricity to Long Island, New York is agreeing to reduce the number of turbines needed for the project.The Providence Journal reports Orsted and Eversource, the two partner developers of the South Fork Wind Farm, will officially agree to reduce the turbine total from fifteen to twelve at a Rhode Island Coastal Resources Management Council meeting on Tuesday.The C-R-M-C is reviewing the project on behalf of the federal government and has warned it would make a negative recommendation if that action wasn t taken.Concerns from the council about the wind farm, which would be constructed in the Rhode Island Sound, include its specific location in a bio-diverse area as well as the potential economic impact on the fishing industry.
PROVIDENCE The developers of the South Fork Wind Farm are set to reduce the number of turbines from 15 to 12 in response to a request from Rhode Island coastal regulators who want to minimize disruption to the marine environment and the state’s fishing industry.
At a meeting of the state Coastal Resources Management Council on Tuesday, Ørsted, the Denmark-based offshore wind company, and its partner Eversource, a regional electric utility, will formally agree to use more powerful turbines that would allow them to cut down on the number needed while still maintaining the same, approximately 132-megawatt capacity of the wind farm.

Sixty years after first opening, the end has come to nuclear power generation at Indian Point. April 30 saw the shutdown of the final operating unit. The moment is being celebrated as a major victory by long-time opponents, who virtually from the start of its operation campaigned to have it closed. In the end, with Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s support, their fears of the dangers posed by a possible nuclear accident won out.
