Former MP Ven. Baddegama Samitha Thera passes away Daily News (via HT Media Ltd.) Former MP and Southern Provincial Councillor Ven. Baddegama Samitha Thera passed away in Matara yesterday. He was 68. Ven.Samitha Thera had been first treated for COVID-19 at the Galle Karapitiya Teaching Hospital where had recovered and had returned to his residential temple in Baddegama. However he had developed some post COVID complications and had been admitted to a private hospital where he succumbed. Ven.Baddegama Samitha was a popular politician who was admired for his revolutionary role in politics as a leading Buddhist monk since his career in academia.

Cyber attacks on five state websites

Cyber attacks on five state websites Daily News (via HT Media Ltd.) Five websites belonging to State institutions including a sub domain of the Sri Lanka Police official website (www.police.lk) have been subject to cyber-attacks in the first five months of this year, Information Technology Society of Sri Lanka (ITSSL) revealed to them, these attacks have been conducted by a group of Turkey hackers on five different occasions between February 5 and May 5. The hacked websites belong to the Sri Lanka Police, Health Ministry, the Ceylon Electricity Board, the Hector Kobbekaduwa Agrarian Research and Training Institute and the Southern Provincial Council.

Navy-constructed Lankagama Nilwella Bridge vested with the public

Colombo (News 1st); The Navy-constructed Lankagama Nilwella Bridge was ceremonially declared open on 10 th April 2021. The opening ceremony was held under the patronage of the Governor of Southern Province, Dr. Willy Gamage and with the attendance of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne. The new bridge connects the villages of Lankagama and Nilwella of Neluwa in the Southern Province. Going in line with the National Policy Framework – Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour by His Excellency the President, Gotabaya Rajapaksa, initiatives were made to go ahead with this development project, fulfilling a long felt need of Lankagama and Nilwella residents as they faced hardships when crossing the Gin River through a risky and difficult means. The construction work of the bridge, which is 84 meters long and 1.8 meters wide, commenced by Navy on 28th July 2020 and was able to complete its construction in short period of time.
