If youâre building in Southern Pines and trying to connect to water and sewer lines, you might be in for a bit of a wait.
The pace of construction in Moore County coupled with the lead time for the town to tap a connection has grown to over 30 days. As a result, Southern Pines has been allowing developers of major projects to contract with licensed utility contractors to complete the connections.
During Mondayâs work session, Town Engineer James Michel presented the Southern PInes Town Council with a number of recommended revisions to water and sewer ordinances including new language that clarifies how tap connections on new projects can be handled and the removal of some restricting language.

The Southern Pines Town Council unanimously approved a preliminary development plan for a proposed expansion of the Legends at Morganton Park apartment complex during Tuesdayâs regular business meeting.
Caviness & Cates, a Fayetteville-based builder, developed the initial complex in 2012, which features 288 luxury apartments, a childrenâs play area, clubhouse and pool. The proposed expansion of 144 units would bring the overall development to 432 apartments on 27 acres.
Plans for the new section include three buildings, each with 48 units, a new outdoor seating and fire pit area, in addition to construction of a new dog park for residents.
Access to the proposed new section would be provided through an entrance on Carlisle Street, in addition to a connection with the existing parking areas off Brucewood Road.
Plans for the new Southern Pines Crossfit location were favorably reviewed by the Southern Pines Town Council on Wednesday. The regular agenda meeting also marked the first time town leaders have met in-person since the start of the pandemic in March 2020.
Dean King of Pinnacle Development Design Build presented the application for the nearly 9,000-square-foot gym on behalf of T & S Developers, LLC. The facility will be located on an undeveloped lot on SW Broad Street, next door to the Natureâs Own store and 195 American Fusion restaurant.
Architecturally speaking, this area of town has a more industrial feel. A number of structures are steel-framed building kits clad in metal siding, but redevelopment efforts include the revamped auto dealership where Cooper Auto Choice is now located and the new two-story brick Fidelity Bank building under construction. Also nearby is Redâs Corner, a food truck campus that is being developed by Rachel Jurgens of Pony Espresso.
